Welcome To The Coop Door Hanger

Welcome To The Coop Door Hanger - Instructions

By Rhonda Gillette

Materials:
· Fabric for embroidering on, cut to fit your hoop. (four colors).
· Stabalizer ( I used a 1.5 oz. tear away)
· Embroidery Thread
· 1 pack of double fold bias tape
· batting
· backing material
· stick on Velcro squares.

1. Embroider 4 blocks using which ever designs you choose. I chose these four.

After your done embroidering, Cut each block to 6 ½” square. Making sure your design is centered.
Lay them out vertically in what ever order you choose.

2. Cut two strips 2” x 6 ½” for each block. These will be your side borders.

Stitch (using ¼” seam) one strip to each side of the embroidered block.
Press seams as follows.
Top block – away from center
Second block – towards center
Third block – away from center
Fourth block – towards center.

3. Sew bottom of top block to top of second block, right sides together and matching
seams. Press seams downward.

Sew third block to bottom of second block, matching seams. Press seams downward.
Sew fourth (bottom block) to the bottom of the third block, matching seams.
Press seams downward. And it should look something like this.

4. Cut 1 strip for top measuring 2” x 9 ½”.
Also, Cut 1 strip for bottom measuring 2” x 9 ½”.
Sew these in place using ¼” seam. Press seams downward.
Check to see if your completed top is square on all edges, square up if needed.
Your finished top should measure 9 ½” wide x 27 ½” long.

5. Cut one backing pc. and batting the same size as your finished top.
Tape your bottom pc. To the table so that it is nice and flat (right side down).
Lay on your batting, smoothing out flat.
*Mark your quilting design on your top pc. I just wanted a simple design so I put a “X”
across each block from corner to corner to follow as a basic guide.

Place your finished top on the batting, making sure your top is nice and smooth and all
layers are lined up even around edges.

Pin all layers together aprox. 4-5 inches apart.

Quilt as desired. Here’s mine. I only wanted the “X” design to be centered, everything
else I wanted to be kind of off balance to keep the country look.

I did chicken tracks down the center diag. of each block using a decorative stitch built
into my machine. Here is a close up. It also goes around on the border.

6. Using wide double fold bias tape – and starting at the center of the bottom, start
Applying bias around outside edge, making sure your corners are mitered as you go around.
Remove any quilt markings.

7. Turn over and attach some stick on Velcro fasteners to each corner. Place the

other half of each Velcro in position on top of the ones you just stuck on.

Now your ready to hang it where you want. : )
